gay rights delayed in australia

australia’s coalition opposition has used its senate majority to block the passage of legislation which would nearly (but not completely) removed discrimination against same-sex couples.

citing the need to examine terms in the new legislation – ‘child’, ‘couple relationship’ and ‘child of a couple relationship’ – the coalition says it wants to hear evidence from stakeholders including the federal attorney-general’s office and the law council of australia.

i suppose one can’t expect much from a group of people who, until their political lives depended on it, proudly labelled themselves ‘climate change skeptics’.
