Filthy old beggars…

“What hangs at a man’s thigh and wants to poke the hole that it’s often poked before?”…

“A key!”

So goes the oldest British joke, which dates back to the 10th century and lays bare the prurient and altogether coarse humour of the Anglo-Saxons.

The joke is one of the world’s ten oldest jokes, as determined by a ‘study’ ‘commissioned’ by UK television network Dave.  The study found other jokes dating back as far as 1900BC, from locations such as Sumeria (now Southern Iraq) and Egypt.

Clearly money well spent.
